For his couture collection this season, Rahul Mishra drew inspiration from The Pale Blue Dot, a book by
renowned American astronomer Carl Sagan.
The iconic image, taken by Voyager 1, shows Earth as a tiny speck in the vast cosmos, serving as a humbling reminder of the planet’s fragility within the grand scheme of the universe. However, Mishra’s response to this cosmic insignificance is not one of despair, but of resilience—an invitation to recognize both the delicate and the powerful aspects of nature, alongside our collective responsibility to care for it. Hailing from New Delhi, Mishra infused his collection with deeply personal reflections. The recent loss of his father added a poignant layer of introspection to his designs, touching on themes of life, love, sorrow, and rebirth.
His creations, vibrant and surreal in their intricate craftsmanship, speak not only of cosmic wonder but also of the more immediate concerns of our planet—especially the ongoing environmental crisis. This duality, between universal and personal meanings, was evident in every stitch, every fabric, every silhouette.

Mishra’s urban landscape was not one of celebration—it was a reflection on urban decay, a
comment on how human innovation, no matter how brilliant, is ultimately vulnerable to the forces of
nature and time. The angular shapes and gleaming sequins evoked images of buildings, tall but fragile
standing in the face of both natural and man-made crises. From this architectural motif, Mishra moved into a more fluid realm, incorporating the imagery of birds to symbolize nature’s resilience.
“From there, birds arrived to clean up the city’s debris,” Mishra explained elaborating on a theme that would unfold throughout the show.
His designs, adorned with intricately crafted feathers, took on a near-divine quality as they glided over corsets and skirts, mimicking the idea that birds could purify the environment of its refuse. The black sequined bodysuit, in particular, seemed to embody this notion, as if the wearer were cloaked in a cocoon of urban chaos and natural renewal.

Mishra’s work is deeply rooted in the art of haute couture, with the meticulous details of his pieces
reflecting the skill and labor of his atelier.
While his avant-garde designs often took on a surreal, fantastical air, they were always grounded in the understanding of haute couture’s traditional techniques. This fusion of the old and the new—the cosmic and the earthly—came to life through the use of mirrors, geometric shapes, and layered fabrics.
While their exact meaning may have been elusive, they seemed to invite viewers to reflect not only on the garments but on the greater questions of existence and humanity’s place within them. It was, however, in the grand finale that Mishra truly embraced the power of symbolism. His closing look, an exuberantly embellished golden dress, featured the delicate but unmistakable image of a uterus—its fallopian tubes transforming into intertwining branches, symbolizing rebirth and life.
This striking visual encapsulated Mishra’s vision perfectly—a recognition of both the fragility and incredible power inherent in nature, particularly in its female form. It was a reminder that life, like the Earth itself, is cyclical: it is born, it dies, and it is reborn.
